“Photographer Jessica Bordner celebrated the upcoming arrival of her baby girl with the sweetest springtime baby shower, and we’re here with all the scoop. From a beautiful floral scape to yummy foods, this event was the perfect way for friends and family to celebrate a wonderful mom-to-be. Get all the details below!

Congrats on your upcoming arrival! Tell us about your shower! What inspired your theme?

First off, I have to give major credit to my amazing sister, who was the hostess and main designer of everything you see. We chatted about the shower theme and I knew because it was springtime and that the venue had more of an industrial look, we definitely wanted a spring vibe, with bright colors and pops of gold.

We’re obsessed with all of the flowers. How was the scape created?

This part of the shower was totally a surprise for me! And boy, was I surprised with how beautiful it turned out. I knew there was a talented florist on board, alongside the ideas of my amazing sister, but I was beyond blown away with how beautiful the floral scape was. It was created out of the idea to make that brick wall an Instagram moment and photo spot for the guests. Since I am a photographer myself, spots for beautiful photos is always a top priority and this went above and beyond anything I could have imagined.

What were some of your must-haves for your baby shower?

Amazingly yummy food and cocktails is always a priority for every party I host. From my wedding to a backyard barbecue, I always want my guests to have fun celebrating, but I also want to create an experience. I definitely wanted some fun activities to give the guests something fun to do while mingling and I loved how each activity is also something that my little girl can use and treasure. From the guest room filled with Polaroids and sweet notes, to the headband-making station, it was the perfect way to incorporate activities without feeling like you had to play the traditional, sometimes cheesy, baby games.

What was your most memorable moment from the event?

Walking into the shower was the most memorable part for me! My sister, alongside my closest friends, worked so hard to celebrate this little baby girl, and most of the shower décor was a surprise, so walking in to see all the beautiful details and the smiles on the faces of my friends and family was such a cool moment I will never forget!

What did you want your guests to take away from your baby shower?

I wanted everyone to relax, have fun and be able to enjoy some really yummy food and drinks. The Parched Pig was the perfect location for this and I couldn’t have been happier.

Do you have any tips for expectant moms wanting to look their best for their baby shower?

I decided to splurge on getting my hair and makeup done for the shower and I am SOO glad I did! As a photographer myself, I am always telling my clients to take that extra step so that they feel extra special and beautiful for photos, and I felt like this wasn’t any different. I woke up and was able to be pampered and really take in the memory of being able to celebrate my first baby. I say go for it! Get your nails done, hair, makeup or whatever makes you feel the most special. If hair and makeup isn’t your vibe, maybe spend a little extra on a special dress you feel beautiful in!

How have you been preparing for motherhood before your baby arrives?

Lots of research and recommendations. I have so many amazing friends and clients who are moms, so I’ve been reaching out to my closest resources for tips and tricks. I am also trying to prepare my work-life balance early because I know I want to be able to spend as many moments and memories as possible once she is here.

Which baby items are must-haves on your registry?

As a first-time mom, I did a lot of research on my registry, but I can say I am particularly excited for a few key items! The Nuna Pipa car seat along with the 2019 Mixx stroller has to be one of my most favorite and splurge items I think I am going to love. Alongside that, some must-haves I registered for include: Halo Bassinet, Snuggle Me Organic, Baby Hatch sound and noise machine (I’ve heard great reviews), The Lovevery Play Gym, sleep sack-type swaddles and a baby carrier and wrap!

What excites you most about having a baby girl?

The clothes…and all the accessories! But seriously, how can you not be excited about that? We are just so blessed to be welcoming our first baby after having a not-so-easy journey starting a family. I cannot wait to spend every memory with her doing all the things she loves and maybe even spoiling her a little bit.
